Our Premium Cork underlayment is 1/4" thick and the rolls are 36’ inches Wide; purchasing these full rolls saves you money. Manufactured by Amorim Industrial Solutions, the pioneer of cork underlayment for sound control, thermal insulation and protection against stress cracks, our products have been in use since the 1980's.

The R60 (6mm = .236” nominally 1/4 inch) is a thermal barrier as well as an acoustical barrier and will also prevent stress cracks in the tile floor. With the highest density on the market for any cork underlayment making it a very durable product, R60 will not "give" causing cracks to form. It is Safe, tested, and designed for use under tile floors. Inferior cork products require use of epoxy grout; but NOT AcoutiCORK R60.

The cork is adhered to the clean & dry concrete slab using either Thinset Mortar (preferred & best method) or an approved adhesive (see instructions below) With an R-Value of 3.1 per inch the cork acts as a "thermal Break" and slows the heat transfer into a concrete slab sub floor when placed on top of the slab. The heating elements are then installed on TOP of the cork, and secured with thinset, tape or glue. Then your tile floor is installed right over the top.

When installing cork for its insulation/thermal break properties, see complete details above and included with your cork, and remember to follow all guidelines related to flooring manufacturer, accepted Tile installation guidelines, and floor heating manufacturer’s instructions.

We recommend adhering cork to your slab using thinset. The floor heating systems is then installed on top of the cork and covered with mortar and tile.

If installing any flooring other than tile (engineered wood or laminate) over cork, the layer of self leveling mortar covering the heating elements must be at least ½ inch thick.

Will R60 Cork Underlayment "swell" with exposure to moisture and cause finish floor coverings to fail?

NO! Because our cork absorbs almost ZERO water it is very dimensionally stable. When exposed to 100% Relative Humidity conditions for an entire 30 days the dimensional change in our AcoustiCORK products is less than 3%. In the 6mm (1/4”) R60, this would represent an increase in thickness of less than 7 thousands of an inch; about the thickness of a human hair.

Is it safe to use AcoustiCORK under ceramic tiles?

Yes, it is. AcoustiCORK R60 underlayment is safe, tested and designed for use under ceramic tile and stone floors. For over 20 years, satisfied customers have been successfully installing them all over the USA as well as in Europe. AcoustiCORK stops the minor cracks in the concrete from showing up in the tile, provides effective impact sound reduction and thermal insulation and allows adhesives and procedures approved by ceramic tile manufacturers.
